Mediation and Dispute Resolution

Mediation is an effective form of dispute resolution. It is a stage of help which comes before and aims to avoid the stress and complications of litigation. As your neutral professional in the mediation process, we will facilitate your discussion and help everyone move forward

Our aim is to help people find solutions that last.

Geoffrey Milton, the founder of All About People, has more than 30 years of experience in dispute resolution and HR practice. His aim is to facilitate honest conversations and to then identify and follow through on appropriate solutions.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a safe and secure space where Parties who find themselves in a dispute or other difficulty can attempt to resolve matters facilitated by a neutral and independent third party.

What is the aim of Mediation?

The aim of Mediation is to give Parties the opportunity to work through their challenge and to explore all options for resolving matters.

Why has Mediation been suggested?

Mediation offers an alternative to more formal proceedings and is ideal where Parties wish to find a lasting solution that works for them and addresses their specific requirements.

What are the Benefits of Mediation?

  • It is entirely Voluntary.
  • It is truly Impartial.
  • Every aspect is fully Confidential.
  • It is Self-Determining where the Parties remain in control throughout and no settlement is reached until it meets with mutual agreement.

What if I don't feel it is right for me?

You may have been signposted or offerred to attend an Initial Consultation by the mediation provider, your employer or sponsor to explore if you feel Mediation can help the situation. It is highly recommended that you go to mediation to help you reach an agreement with the help of a third person who won't take sides. It's better to try and reach an agreement through mediation if you can.

How does the Mediation Process work?

  1. Initial Consultation: Parties have separate Initial Consultations with the Mediator where they have broad discussions about the situation and their position. They are briefed on what to expect and have the opportunity to explore all aspects of Mediation. Parties are given time to consider their options before they confirm if they wish to proceed to the next step.
  2. Preparation: Parties provide the Mediator with a brief outline of their position (oral or written) and any other information they deem relevant at this stage. Parties are provided with sufficient neutral support to ensure they are fully prepared for Step 3.
  3. Mediation Session: The in-person or online session where Parties, facilitated by the Mediator, meet to work through the details of the dispute, their positions and interests and the options and alternatives available for a mutually acceptable resolution. This takes place over a half or full day with as many joint and individual sessions as required. At the end of the process, we will help you put your agreement into writing so that you have a record to refer to. This will remain confidential between those involved.
