Hadestown: A myth for our times – reflections through a mediator’s perspective
This spring, while in Sydney, I had the pleasure of seeing Hadestown – Anaïs Mitchell’s award-winning reimagining of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Following on from my reflections on Guys & Dolls, this performance offered another rich seam of resonance with the themes of mediation, conflict, fear and hope that are so central to our work here at All About People.
While Hadestown does not set out to depict a formal dispute or mediation process, it is saturated with themes that feel deeply familiar to those of us who help people navigate workplace conflict. At its heart, the show explores the eternal human tensions between fear and love, power and vulnerability, truth and doubt. And just like the best mediations, it leaves us asking not only what happened, but why – and what now?
AI in the workplace: the new frontier of conflict – and how to manage it
Artificial intelligence (AI) is fast becoming part of everyday working life. From automating admin tasks to generating content and predicting trends, AI is helping organisations work smarter. But as we gain efficiency, we’re also encountering something more human: conflict. At All About People, we’ve started to see a new kind of workplace tension emerging, not always loud or disruptive, but quieter and more complex.
Review from Sydney – Guys & Dolls at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour
In April, I arrived in Sydney just after dawn, beginning a long-anticipated journey to reconnect with dear friends, relatives, and colleagues, some of whom I hadn’t seen in many years, and others now living with dementia. This wasn’t a typical holiday. It was a journey grounded in values that feel more vital to me with each passing year: the importance of showing up, of being truly present, and of recognising that relationships are not sustained through screens, but through time, attention, and shared space.
